The new rules bring Saskatchewan in line with Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec, and BC, all of which had already introduced similar restrictions in the years prior.
The January 2026 amendments also extended Saskatchewan's long-term serious illness leave from 12 weeks to 27 weeks per calendar year, aligning the province with the federal EI sickness benefit period of 26 weeks.
